Searching Siberia...for Eyebrows?

We saw a one-hour long documentary recently, called Searching Siberia. This pair of American modeling talent scouts ride the Trans-Siberian Railway every year and visit five Russian cities, where they do casting calls for young teenage girls who want to be "discovered" and become fashion models.

A few of the girls actually make it, although obviously the majority are doomed to a life of living in a Soviet-era apartment block on the tundra.

Although it's not a well-made film, we enjoyed Searching Siberia for a couple of reasons. For one thing, every time the scouts arrive in a new city, there is a ballroom filled with dozens of skinny, bikini-clad teenagers waiting for them. That doesn't get old. Second, though, in the same way that there are a few hidden modeling gems in those crowds of girls, there are a handful of awesome eyebrows waiting to be unleashed.

Start Off the Year with a Bang. Literally.

Happy 2012 to all eyebrow fans and readers, casual or faithful. We're planning to keep up with our roughly "every Monday" posting plan, since it works for us. (If it doesn't work for you, well...too bad.)

To kick off the new year we're taking a look at Belen Rodriguez. She's a pretty, sexy brunette model and TV type from Argentina, who lives in Italy and who made headlines a while back because of – shocking!!! – a leaked sex tape.

Normally this is pretty boring news to us, but we actually checked this one out, because, as you can see below, her eyebrows are so quality. Bottom line though: don't bother. She's not that famous, and even though she looks great (and we appreciate her technique in some specific aspects) it's blurry, dark and confusing most of the time. Like teenager sex.

Saucy Sozzi

Yao! Brazil's model Renata Sozzi has some strong, beautiful eyebrows, and a killer physique (if you're into models, anyway) to go along with them. She also has her own blog.


She's featured prominently in this 90-second video showcasing spring collection items from designer Malwee (we also like the toucan at 1:14 and the blonde's kerchief – but that's just us):

You all probably are too young to appreciate the quintessential 1970s-ness of British actress Valerie Leon. She was known for being in the Carry On series, but we liked her as an "unofficial Bond girl," playing the occasional random buxom receptionist, as well as being the woman who was driven crazy by Hai Karate aftershave. Queen Rania and YouTube

Queen Rania of Jordan launched a YouTube channel, and for the effort received the Visionary Award on YouTube Live '08. In the spirit of YouTube live, she sent a recording. Makes no sense.

Nonetheless, we love to see her eyebrows, and here we get to hear her talk. Watch the video from the beginning if you can stand San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom and his cuckolded wife, or do what we did and just fast forward to 3:30 to watch Her Highness imitate David Letterman. With mixed success, but great eyebrows.

Now that the election is winding down, it occurs to us that we can deliver the most painful minute of your day: Madonna in the 1990 Rock the Vote video! Sorry her eyebrows aren't easier to see clearly...

Regal Eden Riegel

We don't watch soap operas – except the Brazilian novelas dubbed into Spanish for Mexican TV – so we didn't notice incredibly cute Eden Riegel until now. Oops!

She's seen here on the right, with some of her colleagues (we think) from her online series Imaginary Bitches.


She attended Harvard but wisely quit so we could eventually see her on the red carpet:




The brows have that dental-instrument angle that we love, and are maybe just a tiny bit asymmetrical. That makes them more interesting.

Ali Michael Spoke Up

At Blubrow we don't get all high and mighty, or even act as if we care. But here (in addition to these photos of beautiful model Ali Michael) is something worth thinking about.

If you start at the eyebrows, as we do, and then work your way down, you'll generally find the rest of the woman carrying those brows around. And sometimes that woman is a fashion model.

So...If you were a young woman who was 5'9" and weighed 129 lbs., do you think your legs would be "too plump"? We don't think so.

But we know that if you were that woman and you were a fashion model and some industry bigshot in Paris told you that, you would believe it. And then you'd drop almost 30 lbs. That's what happened to model Ali Michael.

So we aren't going to give a lecture. We're going to drop these Numéro Tokyo photos on you (and by the way, Ali was mentioned to us via an email from the same reader who brought us Emina and Atossa). R.I.P.: Cyd Charisse

Cyd Charisse has passed away at 86.

We really liked Cyd Charisse's eyebrows, but like most of her fans we loved her legs the most...So here are the brows...

Everyone thinks she was French, but she was from Texas. You can't get less French than Texas (Paris, Texas notwithstanding).

I wonder if it's frustrating to be an aspiring actor on the silver screen, and to find one's greatest success in a television ad for a tin-can of an automobile like the Renault Clio?

If it is, you wouldn't know it from watching the adorable 30ish French actress Annelise Hesme:


Although she's appeared in a few movies, she's best known as "the gorgeous French woman" in the "Ben and Sophie" car ads from about 3 years back. Here's the first one.

And if you want to know what French women do to make men fall in love with them, and that only takes about half a second, watch the bouffée/eyebrow thing that Mlle. Hesme does when she says "Cinéma" and he says "Television." It goes by quickly...:

The French horror flick Frontière(s) sounds pretty grotesque and scary. Which is good.

Tamara Ecclestone: The Paris Hilton of F1

Who?

Americans don't realize it, but the richest sport in the world is Formula I motor racing. And while redneck US fans of NASCAR and even open-wheel Indy Car racing turn their noses up at F1 the way they do at French cheese and man-purses, the fact is that the hyper-powered machines on the F1 circuit could kick an Indy Car's ass for a dime, and give you five cents change.

The Czar of Formula I is Bernie Ecclestone, a sort of half-Warhol/half-Elton Johnesque figure worth many billions of dollars. His daughter, Tamara Ecclestone, has decided that being an heiress is great fun, and gives her an excuse for being famous for being famous (but not having ever done anything). Like Paris Hilton.

At least she's got good eyebrows:
