Broken Embraces, Intact Eyebrows: Penelope Cruz

Our screening theater was being renovated, but now that we have the squash courts and the theater done, you'll be seeing more shots from movie trailers again. And if you visit us, you'll be seeing some squashing.

But right now, you'll be seeing Penelope Cruz, who stars in a film called Broken Embraces. Can't tell but it's likely nonsense. However...Cruz has brow power that we don't often see...


We think in this scene she tells some guy that she is leaving him. We speak Spanish, you know. Cha cha cha:



Then she channels a few different movie stars, guess which one is our favorite?

Nine Equals Four Minus Two

Yeah, so we didn't major in math, big deal. But we're right about this headline. How so?

The feature film Nine debuts soon and we previewed the trailer. The plot: All That Jazz meets A Chorus Line. It included the names of at least three stars we've featured on Blu's Eyebrow Blog before. Between the six ladies, four eyebrow are strong, but two are missing. Hence our math.

First, sub-mental conspiracy theorist Marion Cotillard appears, with the brows looking comme çi–comme ça:



Next, ever-browful Penelope Cruz appears:



And finally, stalwart icon Sophia Loren beams and gleams – but her once-proud eyebrows are no longer in evidence. She still has more x-factor (if less Max Factor) than the rest of the cast combined.

Alba Curviness Scandal: That's not Airbrush, That's Photoshop!

The other day we spotlighted Jessica Alba's Campari calendar, shot by Mario Testino.

Now the Daily Mail has published "leaked" photos clearly showing that that the skinny lady (who recently had a baby) isn't as skinny as she looks in the photos. Humorously, they refer to the pictures as being "airbrushed."

This reminds us of the Penelope Cruz Lashgate scandal, which we reported on a while back.

As for the photos themselves, we did some more investigating.

This one looks good...although we remember our conga drums being a little "curvier." Hmm.


This one seems ok...although our plantation shutters aren't that thin...hmmm:

Scroll-down politically incorrect commentary: Why is it perfectly OK to make someone's eyebrows (and lips, lashes, skin, etc.) look much better than they really are by using artificial means (make up), but not OK to do the same thing to any other part of her body using artificial means (Photoshop)?

The thing we find incredible is that her chest was barely enhanced at all. It really looks like that. Crazy.

Good Advice: Abre los Ojos!

People. A little over ten years ago, Penelope Cruz starred in a Spanish film called Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes).

We think the film's title came from what somebody on the crew said while watching the rushes...

In any case, it's damn good advice. Keep your eyes [wide] shut and you'll be missing this:

More Penelope, and Some Scarlett

No sooner had we blogged Penelope Cruz's brows than she re-appears in the hi-def trailer for a Woody Allen flick, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. This film shows Scarlett Johansson with decent high-contrast brows...


Cruz shows up as a psychotic ex-wife who appears to have a smoking habit and a headache, to go with the Spanish brows:


And no, the color isn't out of whack in these vid caps. The whole thing appears to have been filmed under various yellow, orange and red lights and filters...

Who Cares About Lashes?

In the news today:

Penelope Cruz was found to be guilty of wearing false eyelashes in an ad for L'Oréal cosmetics.

That's right: a make-up ad that didn't show the way a woman's face actually looks. This is outrageous!

We say forget about the stupid lashes. How about that paint job they did on her unruly, shaggy brows? For shame!
