End of an Era: Our Final Eyebrow Post

It's been a great run.  But now we're done. This is the final blog post on Blu's Eyebrow Blog.

We'd planned to run up about a half dozen more posts, just to get to 1,600 total posts. But it's becoming too much of a chore, and not as fun as it used to be. So we'll stick with curating the Flickr group Women's Eyebrows, and leave this site up for search engines to find.

We also thought a lot about whose photo to use in our final post. Our first-ever post, back in March of 2007, showed this corner of Ines Sastre:

And it's right that it have a place of honor here at the end.

But there's really no arguing about the icon of all eyebrow-centric thinking. It's the one, the only, Audrey Hepburn. The last of our looks at Audrey (in the 33rd post to mention her), is at the bottom of this column. Before we share Funny Face, though, here are a few stats from the almost 6 years of eyebrow blogging here:

• Total posts: 1,595
• Comments: 152
• Page views all time: about 975,000

We checked on the most popular posts of all time too...some surprises, based on the lethal combo of our tags and peoples' search proclivities:

• Most popular (54,000 views): Something Sticking Out: Amateur Oops
• 2nd most popular (18,700 views): Feast of Eyebrow Love: Radha Mitchell
• 3rd most popular 18,000 views): Tennis Pro Ashley Harkleroad, Nude

Note that the #1 all-time keyword search driving traffic to us has been: "Oops." We also get a lot of people looking for nude photos of Maggie Siff, who we blogged twice but then forgot about because we don't think she's interesting.

Our biggest month for traffic ever was easily May 2008. That's when we got a link from Fleshbot, Gawker's pr0n site. We were also on a roll anyway, with more than 50 posts that month, generating extra traffic.

Our number one source of traffic, with more than 24,000 clicks through, is IndieNudes. We mentioned them in June 2007 and they linked to us, and the hits just keep on coming. Thanks again for the link, guys.

Worldwide, we're most popular in the USA, followed by the UK, Germany, Canada, and France.

Enough with the stats. You don't care about that anyway. Here's our final hurrah, as we hurtle past the 1,000,000 page views mark. Thanks to all our readers, commenters, contributors, and friends. It's been a great ride – we'll see you on Flickr.

Emily Tebbetts' Underwater Work

Hello Friends,

Yes, the postings have slowed to a trickle...life is complicated, and although we've been blogging consistently – if not always prolifically – since March of 2007, we find ourselves without the time and ability to focus on doing eyebrow blogging right.

So we're winding down. We'll have about another half-dozen posts, then we'll put Blu's Eyebrow Blog on ice, at least for now...but probably permanently.

But until then, we have a couple more gems to share. Like this beautiful artwork by photographer Emily Tebbetts. We're inviting her to add this work to our Women's Eyebrow group over on Flickr.

In fact, we're going to keep the Flickr group going, even after we put the blog on hold, so sign up for Flickr (it's free) and join the group. We have more than 700 photos in there, and we add a few every week or two.

We love the "Recent from Everyone" feature of Flickr. It shows you the most recent several uploads. Given that between three and six thousand photos are uploaded every minute, the variety is enjoyable. And sometimes you hit pure gold.

As with this set from a user named Eclexion_Arts. This young woman poses for many photos, and her eyebrows are a force of a nature.

Oh, and she's in a car, so we used the Drive It! tag, which we don't often get to use.

Don't forget we have a whole group on Flickr, devoted to Women's Eyebrows! Constantly growing (the group, not the brows). And modestly, we must say, it's awesome!!

We've been digging the work of photographer Salomé Vorfas. She has a blog and a cool Flickr stream. Oh yeah, and a kickass Tumblr. Cripes, who doesn't have a Tumblr these days?

We don't.

Jeronimo!

About ten years ago we went to Argentina.

Cha cha cha.

We don't remember seeing this young lady when we were there, which is just as well because she was almost certainly underage at the time, and we might have ended up in prison. Or worse.

Now though, we can enjoy her (which is good, since we are basically in love with her) via the photography of Jeronimo Laborde.

The Eyebrow Group on Flickr: 100 Members

We have a group on Flickr. It's called Women's Eyebrows (go figure).

There are now 100 members, and almost 500 photos in the group. If you haven't checked it out, you should. It's full of brow awesomeness, like this gem from Flickr user ℓεℓα:

Remember Secretaries? We Do.

These days, offices are filled "administrative aides," "support staff," and "office assistants."

When we grew up they were called "secretaries."

Why and when did that become a bad thing?

We don't know. But we know that loyal uber-reader Nastya sent us this, which she ran across via Flickr user Pepemichelle (who calls them secretaries).

We have an army of blog-reading monkeys who are trained to find and report on excellent photography that has an eyebrow component. Monkey Prime recently knocked on the conference room door and signed with coarse gestures that that he had found a photographer who not only delivered the brow goods, but was also blogging the efforts of other top shutterbugs.

Win Win.

This person is Aaron Feaver. He has his own photo site but also has a blog, and a Flickr stream. The monkeys will be mining his awesome postings for photos worthy of the Blubrow treatment. Until then, enjoy this one from Feaver himself.

Israelis, Real and Fake

Ayelet Zurer is an Israeli-born actress with good brows and a nice look...


Cote de Pablo is a Chilean-born actress with good brows and a nice look. And on NCIS (as we have mentioned) she plays an Israeli character. The only Israeli girls we ever see are the ones in our Flickr group, Women's Eyebrows, so this reality check lets us know that the TV folks are doing a good job of making their American-raised Chileans look like real honest to goodness Israelis.

Flickr of course provides hours of entertainment of all kinds. But it's also a way station for photographers who occupy that murky limbo between amateur and pro.

Maybe they have a great eye but no fancy hardware. Maybe they have a studio set up but don't know from lighting. Maybe they have fancy equipment and suck at photography.

Wherever you think Katarina Smuraga fits in, she at least has some side boob in her photos. And some odd eyebrows.

Aaaaaand....We're Back

Look, we know we haven't posted in a few days, but give us a break, will you? You think it's easy keeping track of the international eyebrow landscape, checking in on our branch offices, gassing up the mobile field unit and drinking ourselves into oblivion?

Well it ain't.

But while we were out and about we crossed paths with a photog named Sliwkais on Flickr and fell off our Icelandic horse when we saw this beauty, named Elizabeth.

We mentioned Spacesick a while back and thought this belonged here for your benefit.

Spacesick?

Spacesick is the Flickr username of a dude named Mitch who is a funny, talented, artistic guy. And like all of us, he has a blog.

Only in Paducah

So you may not know this, but we have an entire division of Worldwide Blubrow that does nothing but manage a group on Flickr, called Women's Eyebrows. That's right. 24/7.

They brought the following to our attention. Here's the caption:

Monkey Eyebrow Road sign, Ballard County Route 473, Kentucky, December 2008: Route 473 runs between Kevil on U.S. Route 60 west of Paducah through Ballard Wildlife Management Area (a duck-hunting swamp just south of the Ohio River). There is no road sign at Monkey's Eyebrow, but it lies between the swamp and the next rise on the road. The nearest post office is at Bandana (pop. 140, zip code 42022), at the intersection of Routes 473 and 358.

Meanwhile, that Flickr group has 200 photos in it, so check it the hell out.

Our Christmas Card

A year ago we introduced you to our calling cards (sample above), which have been left in various restaurants, taxi cabs, hotels and airports around the globe. Maybe you came here because you picked one up? We hope so.

In any case, since then we've appeared on Facebook, on Flickr (the Women's Eyebrows group!), and on Twitter (follow us and we'll follow you back).

We're looking forward to another year of blogging the best brows and we thank our loyal readers. Hell, we even thank the traitorous ones.

Wow. This is the 600th time we've logged into Blogger's lame (but free) interface to share with you the wonderful world of women's eyebrows.
