End of an Era: Our Final Eyebrow Post

It's been a great run.  But now we're done. This is the final blog post on Blu's Eyebrow Blog.

We'd planned to run up about a half dozen more posts, just to get to 1,600 total posts. But it's becoming too much of a chore, and not as fun as it used to be. So we'll stick with curating the Flickr group Women's Eyebrows, and leave this site up for search engines to find.

We also thought a lot about whose photo to use in our final post. Our first-ever post, back in March of 2007, showed this corner of Ines Sastre:

And it's right that it have a place of honor here at the end.

But there's really no arguing about the icon of all eyebrow-centric thinking. It's the one, the only, Audrey Hepburn. The last of our looks at Audrey (in the 33rd post to mention her), is at the bottom of this column. Before we share Funny Face, though, here are a few stats from the almost 6 years of eyebrow blogging here:

• Total posts: 1,595
• Comments: 152
• Page views all time: about 975,000

We checked on the most popular posts of all time too...some surprises, based on the lethal combo of our tags and peoples' search proclivities:

• Most popular (54,000 views): Something Sticking Out: Amateur Oops
• 2nd most popular (18,700 views): Feast of Eyebrow Love: Radha Mitchell
• 3rd most popular 18,000 views): Tennis Pro Ashley Harkleroad, Nude

Note that the #1 all-time keyword search driving traffic to us has been: "Oops." We also get a lot of people looking for nude photos of Maggie Siff, who we blogged twice but then forgot about because we don't think she's interesting.

Our biggest month for traffic ever was easily May 2008. That's when we got a link from Fleshbot, Gawker's pr0n site. We were also on a roll anyway, with more than 50 posts that month, generating extra traffic.

Our number one source of traffic, with more than 24,000 clicks through, is IndieNudes. We mentioned them in June 2007 and they linked to us, and the hits just keep on coming. Thanks again for the link, guys.

Worldwide, we're most popular in the USA, followed by the UK, Germany, Canada, and France.

Enough with the stats. You don't care about that anyway. Here's our final hurrah, as we hurtle past the 1,000,000 page views mark. Thanks to all our readers, commenters, contributors, and friends. It's been a great ride – we'll see you on Flickr.

Emily Tebbetts' Underwater Work

Hello Friends,

Yes, the postings have slowed to a trickle...life is complicated, and although we've been blogging consistently – if not always prolifically – since March of 2007, we find ourselves without the time and ability to focus on doing eyebrow blogging right.

So we're winding down. We'll have about another half-dozen posts, then we'll put Blu's Eyebrow Blog on ice, at least for now...but probably permanently.

But until then, we have a couple more gems to share. Like this beautiful artwork by photographer Emily Tebbetts. We're inviting her to add this work to our Women's Eyebrow group over on Flickr.

In fact, we're going to keep the Flickr group going, even after we put the blog on hold, so sign up for Flickr (it's free) and join the group. We have more than 700 photos in there, and we add a few every week or two.

Summer: Thy Name was Paige Young

Where we live, it has finally become freakin' hot. That's the sign that summer has arrived.

And nothing says "Summer" like a vintage Playboy centerfold with bodacious tan lines and eyebrows.

This is Paige Young, Miss November 1968. I am sure that where we live, come November, we'll be pining for a scene like this to warm things back up.

Sadly, Miss Young died from a sleeping pill overdose in 1974 in Hollywood.

Blonde, Brunettes: Clarke and Taylor

A few weeks ago we mentioned Emilia Clarke, in the context of the HBO series, Game of Tits.

So...let's take a look. But let's put it in an original context... Emilia is a brunette, but on the show, she's a bleach blonde. But she rocks the dark eyebrows. We love that!

But just for a little context, like we said, we want to include a picture of another brunette who rocked the blonde look. Elizabeth Taylor, not as we have always seen her:

Trying to Keep Up...and Failing!

OK, OK. We know. We've been ignoring you. We never call. We never write. We're like the worst bloggers ever! It's true.

But life gets in the way...so although we can't promise that there will be a weekly post as in the past, rest assured the blog isn't dead, and it's not going away...it's just...adapting. Or something.

Will you forgive us if we share photos of an All-American, wholesome, healthy brunette centerfold? A girl-next-door extraordinaire? You will? Thanks. That means a lot.

Here's Cindy Fuller. In May, 1959 she was Playboy Playmate of the Month. She was 20 years old when the photos were taken by Bunny Yeager. She knows how to smile. And bite a towel.

Ooooh! Oona!

Lotsa talk about Game of Thrones. Or, as we called it for a while, Game of Tits.

Except there aren't even that many tits anymore, it seems.

But...there are eyebrows!

We'll look at the dragon lady Emilia Clarke's brows in a future post, but they're already noted in the media. You don't hear as much about this lady's brows:

That's Oona Chaplin. She's the grand-daughter of actor Charlie Chaplin, and great-grand-daughter of Nobel Prize winning playwright Eugene O'Neill.

On Game of Thrones she plays some character named Lady Talisa, whose purpose makes as much sense as the roles played by every other person associated with this clusterfuck of a show.

That is to say: none.  

But we dig the brows.

Emily Ratajkowski: Treats Indeed

Emily Ratajkowski apparently was a kid TV actress on Nickelodeon.

Fast forward.

Emily Ratajkowski is an insanely endowed model with nice eyebrows.

We love the "Recent from Everyone" feature of Flickr. It shows you the most recent several uploads. Given that between three and six thousand photos are uploaded every minute, the variety is enjoyable. And sometimes you hit pure gold.

As with this set from a user named Eclexion_Arts. This young woman poses for many photos, and her eyebrows are a force of a nature.

Oh, and she's in a car, so we used the Drive It! tag, which we don't often get to use.

Don't forget we have a whole group on Flickr, devoted to Women's Eyebrows! Constantly growing (the group, not the brows). And modestly, we must say, it's awesome!!

Cultural Appropriation: Right or Wrong?

We picked this photo, by Nathan Small, because we thought the chick was smoking hot, and we like her eyebrows a lot. But we know this photo could be deemed controversial, so we're accompanying with this educational point-counterpoint.

If you are not interested in that you can just stare at the photo. Your call.

There is a debate about cultural appropriation. Here are two sides of the argument, reduced to a simple paragraph.

Anti:
It is absolutely flat out wrong to appropriate Native American culture or ethnic identity. It perpetuates stereotypes, extends the Caucasian hegemonic position of abusive dominance, and sends the message that it is OK to depict Native Americans and, by logical extension, other under-represented minority segments of society, in a simplistic, reductionist way that damages the cause of tolerance, multiculturalism, and understanding.

Pro:
It's OK to use images based on American ethnographic history for artistic purposes. There is no harm in a nude model, for example, drawing inspiration from well-known Native American (or American Indian) themes. Those include the eagle feather head-dress and the greeting with hand up-raised, palm facing forward. The model (and artist) are creating visual interest, thematic cohesion, and a sense of mischievous playfulness, nothing more.

In Argentina. As we saw in January of 2011, that's where photog Jeronimo Laborde lives and shoots. And we presume, where this nameless sylph abides.

Right about now, though, we're singing, "Abide with me!"

Throwback Thursday: In Between Liz

We see a lot of young Liz Taylor, looking glamorous and sweet. Then we see a lot of older Liz Taylor, hanging on to Jocko's arm or swaying in her chair on the set of Larry King Live.

In between, was the Liz Taylor seen on the cover of Modern Screen magazine circa early 1971. Still rockin' the brows.

We know our readers enjoy the underwater scenes. We're not sure why, but no matter. Submerged eyebrows are popular, and we bring you some today.

Sucking On...a Lemon?

It's been a while since we made a concerted effort to showcase some amateur eyebrow talent.

There's some not-so-cool stuff going on here: the ever-present giant forearm that is the hallmark of all self-shot photos; the lumpy bra over what appears to an otherwise-righteous rack; the low-quality new construction in the background...and of course, the squinty, sour-faced expression which might be intended as a – MUAH! – smooch, but which looks like the face we make when we have to siphon gasoline from our neighbor's car at night.

And yet...some of it's good...the expanse of curvaceous skin...the flimsy white cotton of a ribbed wife-beater...and most of all, the crazy good arch of that committed right eyebrow.

In keeping with Thursday's amateur posting, we wanted to share a brunette who has high-quality eyebrows, normal-sized forearms, and who is puckered up the right way!

Throwback Thursday: Stockings, Palm Fronds and Stencils. And Five Nipples.

Sometimes we like to find a theme that ties together our vintage eyebrow displays. But this week, we're at a loss.

We brought in a high-priced consultant to assess the situation and to provide us with a number of options to pursue. When it was time for his report, the room was hushed. The lights were dimmed and we crowded around the conference table, pencils hovering expectantly over our legal pads.

There was one PowerPoint slide. And on that single, stark slide was displayed a single, electrifying word.

Our consultant had, in true consultant style, borrowed our watch to tell us what time it was.

He read the slide's single word out loud and strode from the room, heading to the airport, with a quick stop at the ATM to cash his check. The word?

NIPPLES

There's your theme folks. There's your theme.

Most Perfect Ass Ever? Maybe. Good Brows Too!

There are a lot of Mexican actresses we've never heard of. Here's one now:

This is how she appeared in a magazine called H Extremo. We don't know anything about her except that

• is the daughter of a Dominican
  
• is the grand-daughter of a Spaniard
• has a perfect, perfect ass.
  

Also, she holds up her hair a lot, and has decent eyebrows.
