Keira Knightley's Atonement
So there's a new movie on the way: Atonement. It stars Keira Knightly as a girl with awesome eyebrows who is tall and thin and soaking wet. She is also more or less dazed and confused, as you can see from the video stills I grabbed off the trailer (below).
The plot, as near as I can tell, goes like this. There's a British guy and this British girl, and another British girl. Something terrible happens, and then, later, something else terrible happens. Then, something wonderful happens. But something terrible happens to undo all this wonderfulness. At the end, at long lost - redemption! I mean, atonement. Whatever.
Look, just check out the eyebrows. What do I look like, Roger Ebert?
Don't answer that!

Croatian Models Strut Their Stuff
When you think about raw eyebrow material in ethnic terms you think about Greece, Armenia, Italy and maybe Israel.
But Croatia has a strong case to make. Below, a few samples of Croatian models in print.
Korana Gvozdic:
Iva Dragovic:
Tatjana Dragovic:
Zagreb appears to have just what the doctor ordered. Who knew?!
Aside: what's with Tatjana's crash cart? I've heard of tanning beds, but raining beds? And with a cup-holder no less!

The Geometry of the Eyebrow
A perfectly shaped eyebrow is an organic treat, a gift from nature, perfected by Man.
But behind the end-product is a set of geometrical rules, derived from first principles and applicable to any eye. Know your angles and you can create a pleasing result with patience, attention to detail, and a little bit of plane geometry.
Herewith, some examples of the science of eyebrowmetry:

Blikk!
Take one look at this magazine cover and you'll know why I was compelled to enter a bookstore after seeing this illustration displayed through the window.
Take another, closer look at the magazine and you'll realize - even if you don't speak the language - that it's not just some magazine. It's a magazine for the gay community. And that's fine - we'd don't discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. But we do discriminate against magazines that don't feature cool eyebrow art on their covers.
Blikk passes the test, whatever the hell the articles might be about.

Random Amateur Eyebrows
Another find from Blogger Play. If your Portuguese is good, you can read all about it. If not, you can just do what I'm doing and enjoy the eyebrows.

Shot Herself: Stellar
Back in May I talked about a site called I Shot Myself. A young lady named Stellar appears to have shot herself as well, and has the goods (i.e., brows) to make the cut here at Blubrow. Enjoy:
Play, Blogger Play, Play!
I like to think I'm pretty inventive. Sometimes I come up with an internet game, that you can play. iDisk Surfing is one such game. Another is Google Image Roulette.
Now the good folks at Google have given us another toy to play with online. It's called, simply, Blogger Play and according to the FAQ, it's
The vast majority of the photos that appear on Blogger Play are incredibly boring and of surpassingly low quality, but the parade of images is oddly hypnotic - almost addictive. And every once in a while, you'll catch one worth pausing for.
The two images below come from a blogger named Mikki who is in Europe, traveling around for no apparent reason (something about Gwen Stefani and Christian fellowship). On the right in this photo is her friend Carly from San Luis Obispo:
And this is someone she met in Hungary, named Marta - a little harder to appreciate the brow, but go with me on this one:
The point is: check out the Blogger Play site and see if you can catch a hidden gem. And if you find one with decent eyebrows, email it to me and I'll post it if it meets the subjective Blubrow Community Standard.

And if you're more of a gadget freak than an eyebrow voyeur, no problem. Blogger Play has something for everyone, such as this prototype for a Swiss Segway...

a real-time slideshow of photos Blogger users have recently uploaded to their blogs. It's a great snapshot of what people are thinking and posting about, right now!Well, it is and it isn't. For example, right now I'm thinking about sex and porn, but that is not represented on Blogger Play, which tries to filter out "adult images" using Google SafeSearch settings. But even Google isn't perfect:
...it is still possible that you may be exposed to such images while watching Blogger Play. If this happens...let us know about it and we'll be sure to exclude it from Blogger Play in the future. In other words, when the dorks in the back room at Google are done jerking off to whatever naked chick you stumbled upon, they will bookmark it.

Nice Eyebrows! Now, About Those Nails...
A Houston, Texas photographer name Beth Cupitt has a new blog to support her portrait photography biz. Her most recent posting features a young woman named Melodie in a "pin up" session. If you've been reading this blog at all, you'll immediately see why we endorse Beth's work - and Melodie's eyebrows.
Cupitt, who describes herself as a portrait photographer who specializes in pin up style work, also does wedding photography. She says she will feature Melodie in the future. We hope so, and we'll keep you posted.
Click here to see three more shots from this session.
So now, about the "classy" manicure...

British Browcasting Corporation
The BBC is carrying a story today about London Fashion Week. Some are calling for closer monitoring of runway models to ensure they do not suffer from eating disorders.
Whatever.
As part of the TV coverage of this "story," the Beeb interviewed a pretty young woman who told of being rejected for a modeling job and told to "go home and rest up" and - in effect - gain some weight.
We don't want the young lady, whose name is Charlotte Carter, to suffer any setback to her modeling ambitions. But we're wondering if maybe the agency reps were afraid that Ms. Carter could never earn back the money they would likely be spending to pare her bodacious eyebrows?

All The News That's Fit To Pluck
Somehow we missed it, but it turns out that in mid-2006 The Paper of Record had an illustrated article in its Style section about Hollywood's eyebrow influence over the decades.
The graphic that accompanied that article is reproduced below. Click to make it readable. We have so many comments about what's not included, that it is, frankly, pointless to say anything.
Scroll-down syndication: And if you don't want to pay the NYT to access the article that accompanied this, no worries. The venerable Orange Lady, the OC Register, picked it up and it's still online.

Much More Than Just Brows
There's a photographer named Aeric Meredith-Goujon. That's too much name, in our opinion, but you know what? He gets a free pass, because his stuff is good.
Of course the parts that interest us here are those that display the art of the brow, but check out his main site for an in-depth experience. Aeric, who studied photography at Pratt in Brooklyn, NY, has wide-ranging tastes and talents.
Scroll-down wayback machine link: His old site is still online too. Check it out.

Suicide Girl: Flux [the Fedaykin]
No commentary needed: Suicide Girl Flux.
Scroll-down bonus Galach word of the day: OK, so I said I wouldn't comment, but then I saw the Fedaykin tattoo. If she's really Fremen, I have a shai-hulud she can worship any time.

Next Up For Tokyo: A Brow Bar?
According to an item from WIRED magazine, customized over-the-top lashes are hot in Tokyo:
Hip teens are hitting the Tokyo Lash Bar in the city's Omotesando district for eye-poppingly over-engineered fake lashes. Using a unique applicator and a special latex adhesive, makeup pros install a set of these architectonic master pieces, like the high-end Velvet Feather for about $43 and Yellow Flash or Dazzling Diamante for less than $20. A bit steep, but the lashes can be reused as many as 10 times. How about "eye-poppingly over-engineered fake eyebrows"? There's a mint waiting to be made by an enterprising entrebrowneur.

Ansari Singapore Encore
A Singaporean with the unlikely moniker Bjorn Lee blogged about being in a CNN faux-special about the future of space flight (essentially an advertisement for the Singaporean government's interest in commercial space flight). He offered a photo of himself with Anousheh Ansari, whom we've discussed on this blog before.
Frankly, we liked her better with the flight gear on her head, but the brows are solid. Enjoy.

More Keira, This Time With Social Commentary
Ms. Knightley has criticized the media for focusing on her figure and not on her films. Right on, Keira. Fight the power!
Meanwhile, we would like to reassure the actress that her films are subjects of great fascination and serious contemplation for us, and that we would never stoop to mere physi- whoa! More photos! Check it out!!!
Scroll-down editorial bonus:
The very Englishly named Jasper Gerard has written an outstanding column in the Telegraph, followed by a vituperative whinging criticism of Knightley by someone named Becky Something, who refers to Knightley as a "plank of wood." And best of all are the comments from readers. One of them points out - quite rightly - that it's OK for critics to worry about an actress getting too thin, but off limits to point out when they get too fat.

Sarah Silverman: Pro and Con
Sassy comedienne Sarah Silverman is in a movie about a guy and food. Sounds like romantic comedy to us. Yech.
There are some things to like about her. Her style of humor (she almost steals the show from Gilbert Gottfried in The Aristocrats), her boldness, and of course, her eyebrows.
And yet...I have reservations. It's the southeastern Massachusetts accent. I think that's what it is. Too bad. But let's not declare it a total loss. Let's enjoy some screen shots from the movie - since we aren't actually going to ever see it:
